The problem with the “hurricane cut”
Drive around Lake County and you’ll see palms stripped to a few upright fronds. UF/IFAS research finds that over-pruning weakens a palm and slows its growth, and it does nothing to help the palm ride out a storm. It needs a full canopy to stay healthy.
A simple guide: leave every frond at or above horizontal, the line from 9 o’clock to 3 o’clock, and remove only dead or drooping fronds below it.
